Colored Tile

Text.

This study in paper explores the creative potential of a familiar cladding product, fiber cement panels, using intelligence to achieve a depth of possibilities. MAS began by digitally generating a tile pattern of intersecting circles, which, when clipped on a square, creates meaningful points of connection. The team then applied AI to randomly separate the pattern into six colors, ultimately generating 6,000 possible combinations of color, pattern, and order.

These panels, then, are composed of six colored layers – each CNC-cut and stacked in a designated order – to produce a visual array of subtly shifting dimensions. Collaborator: Molly M Designs
